Last Thursday, we had the opportunity to listen to guest speaker Marjorie Maas in our media storytelling class. Maas is currently employed by Share Omaha and plays a large role in their promotions area.
To start off, Maas took us all through her journey in the workforce. She discussed how she was an art history major and took business classes while in school as well. Her first job in the marketing area was at the Mid-America Center, where she had an assistant job. Maas told us how she showed up their job fair and asked for the assistant job, which wasn’t even being promoted at the event. She talked about the hustle that she’s given to get good opportunities.
Next, Maas worked at the Omaha Symphony in public relations and promotions. A big value of hers, as she said, was bringing an audience to the arts. She had this job for a while and enjoyed it, but eventually had to move on after having kids. She dabbled in freelance work for a while and had a very good time, but then she found her next step.
Share Omaha was getting ready to launch, and after checking out what Share Charlotte had done, Maas wanted to be a part of this. She played a pivotal role in launching the Share Omaha website and media. Share Omaha has a lot of big annual events, such as Do Good Days and Giving Tuesday, and Maas does a lot of work promoting those events. Being a part of their launch and seeing the ways it’s grown, Maas discussed how rewarding it was.
Being able to listen to Marjorie Mass discuss her time so far in the workforce was fascinating, and there was a lot to take away. Once again, I am incredible thankful that I was there to hear it!
